Hello, my name is Taylor
Crabtree and I am the 18 year old owner of TayBear, Inc. A non-profit
charity that I started in 1997 when I was seven years old. My friends
and I make hairclips and sell them. All the profits go to buy teddy
bears as presents for kids with cancer or chronic blood diseases.
I started my project because
I felt that kids with cancer are probably having a lot of sadness.
I wanted them to have something special to hug and to hug them
back. I also wanted then to know that even strangers care about
them.
My goal was to buy 50
teddy bears and donate them to my local hospital. But after I met
so many of the kids that got a TayBear or having read their letters,
I felt that I couldn't stop. More kids needed a bear to hug. I
wanted to do more by reaching more children that are going through
some very scary times. Soon a bunch of my friends volunteered to
help and now we've had over 1,600 kids (and a few grown-ups) helping
to bring a smile and a fuzzy friend to some very sick children.
TayBear has now donated 27,000 teddy bears to
the Hematology/Oncology department of hospitals all over the United
States (with some bears going to Canada and Mexico as well).
